KLUANG, May 15 — Tensions often flare as elections loom, but Kluang MP Wong Shu Qi has urged coalition allies to avoid “friendly fire” after Subang MP Wong Chen referenced the Democratic Action Party (DAP) in remarks about evolving party practices.

Speaking at a recent forum, Wong Chen suggested that both his party and DAP have shifted from their grassroots origins, citing the influence of money politics and events now held at upscale venues like hotels.

In response, Wong Shu Qi clarified that DAP’s National Congress, held on March 16, took place at the Ideal Convention Centre (IDCC) in Shah Alam, dismissing any notion of lavish settings.

“Unless convention centres are now rated five-star, I’m not sure where the ‘hotel event’ claim comes from,” she said.

She also emphasized DAP’s unchanged financial practices, noting that elected representatives continue to contribute 15% of their monthly allowances to fund party operations.

“That’s how we keep the lights on at HQ—just old-school commitment,” she added.

Acknowledging the intensity of election periods, Wong Shu Qi called for unity within the coalition, urging allies to refrain from dragging DAP into unnecessary disputes.

“We’re just minding our own business,” she said.
