KUALA LUMPUR, June 1, 2025 — Tensions within the government coalition surfaced yesterday as Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali sharply rebuked MCA president Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong over claims regarding the LPG gas cylinder subsidy. Armizan accused Wee of spreading misleading information about the subsidy’s implementation.

In response today, Wee clarified that his concern was not the regulation itself—established during his time in the Cabinet—but its execution. This shift in stance drew scrutiny, as Wee had previously posted on social media, stating, “LPG: FROM RM26 TO RM70,” implying a new regulation had scrapped the subsidy.
Bangi MP and DAP National Vice-Chairman Syahredzan Johan slammed Wee’s apparent contradiction, accusing MCA of moving the goalposts.
“Yesterday it was one thing, today it’s another,” Syahredzan remarked, highlighting the inconsistency.
Syahredzan, who has refrained from commenting on MCA’s frequent criticisms of the MADANI government despite their coalition partnership, said recent issues—including the EPF share sale, MyKiosk, and now the LPG subsidy—prompted his response. He accused MCA of undermining the government with “half-truths” and inaccurate claims, questioning their sincerity as coalition partners.
“If MCA keeps attacking the MADANI government with misleading narratives, it’s clear they lack commitment to this government. They might as well leave,” Syahredzan stated.
The public spat underscores growing friction within the coalition, raising questions about MCA’s role and future in the government.
