BANGI, 14 April 2025 – Bangi Member of Parliament Syahredzan Johan has urged the public to receive the recent speech by Chief Justice YAA Tun Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat with an open heart, dismissing criticisms leveled by Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz as reported in the media. Syahredzan emphasized that no action is warranted against the Chief Justice for her remarks made at the Commonwealth Law Conference in Malta.
“The Chief Justice’s speech was general in nature and not directed at Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim or the MADANI Government,” Syahredzan said in a statement today. He clarified that the speech supported proposals to enhance the judicial appointment process under the Judicial Appointments Commission (JAC).
Syahredzan highlighted that the Prime Minister recently affirmed the MADANI Government’s commitment to reviewing and improving the judicial appointment process, including examining suggestions to remove the Prime Minister’s role in the mechanism. “This demonstrates the government’s acknowledgment that the process can be refined, further underscoring its dedication to institutional reform,” he added.
Calling for a receptive approach to the Chief Justice’s suggestions, Syahredzan expressed confidence that the remarks were made in good faith to safeguard the independence and integrity of the judiciary, which he noted has been steadily recovering under Tun Tengku Maimun’s leadership.
